Te Upoko O Te Ika (2008)

In 2008 I worked on a project to digitise and preserve a unique collection of open-reel tapes from Te Upoko O Te Ika.

Te Upoko O Te Ika is the longest running Maori Radio Station in New Zealand, has been broadcasting in Wellington since 1982. Its history and whakapapa is strongly linked to the rise of Maori Language usage throughout Aotearoa / New Zealand.

The tapes were mainly recordings of material that had been broadcast in the 1980s and early 1990s. The collection is a unique snapshot of Te Reo programming from this period.
